About the position

GovCIO is seeking a Junior Web Developer with a focus on UI/UX and Human Centered Design (HCD) to enhance web-based interfaces and analytics dashboards. This remote position involves collaborating with clients to translate business needs into technical specifications, designing user interfaces, and ensuring compliance with accessibility standards. The role emphasizes innovative methodologies and best practices in web development, requiring a blend of technical skills and effective communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design web page layout, graphics, color schemes, and infrastructure to maintain a cohesive brand.
• Conceptualize, design, and implement web-based user interfaces based on current technologies and requirements.
• Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to determine application requirements and long-term strategy.
• Work with software developers and testers to incorporate interface elements into the information system.
• Provide visual experience guidance and standards for application HCD and Design Thinking.
• Conduct presentations and education on HCD/Design Thinking benefits.
• Facilitate working sessions for Human Centered Design and Design Thinking.
• Design data visualization solutions and create mockups and use cases.
• Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting of developed solutions.
• Evaluate and improve existing data visualization systems and ensure compliance with Section 508 regulations.
• Create and update technical documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Science, Technology, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
• 0-2 years of experience in relevant fields, with work experience considered in lieu of a degree for highly qualified candidates.
• Proven experience in data visualization, software, or business intelligence design.
• 1 year of experience in a programming language (Preferred: Python, JavaScript, DAX, SQL, or R).
• Understanding of HTML Box Model and experience in developing CSS with knowledge of layout control (flow, flex, grid).
• Strong verbal communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to consult and conduct stakeholder interviews.
• Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with conceptual, logical, and physical UI form and dashboard mockups.
• Experience in front-end frameworks (Preferred: React or Vue).
• Familiarity with BI technologies (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Oracle BI).
• Knowledge of SQL queries and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
• Background in data warehouse design and data mining.
• Familiarity with Microsoft low code solutions (PowerApps, SharePoint).
• VA, VHA, or other federal contracting experience.
