About the position

The IT Systems Technician II is responsible for installing, modifying, and repairing personal computer hardware and software systems. This role provides technical assistance and training to system users, ensuring effective operation of computer systems. The technician operates under general supervision and is expected to demonstrate initiative and self-management while performing a variety of complex tasks.

Responsibilities

• Installs hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives on user's premises.
• Loads specified software packages such as operating systems, word processing, or spreadsheet programs into computer.
• Enters commands and observes system functions to verify correct system operation.
• Responds to client inquiries concerning systems operation and diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems.
• Instructs users in use of equipment, software, and manuals.
• Recommends or performs minor remedial actions to correct problems.
• Provides updates, status, and completion information to manager, problem request tracking system, and/or users.
• Updates documentation to record new equipment installed, new sites, and changes to computer configurations.
• Inspects communications wires and cables.
• Acts as liaison with manufacturers and vendors of software and application products, especially with regard to problem diagnosis and resolution.
• Plans and executes software version upgrade releases and custom interfaces.
• Installs, configures, and tests workstations with supporting hardware, software, and networking components.

Requirements

• Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
• Minimum of six years direct experience and/or training in IT systems support.
• Valid driver's license.
• Minimum of 2 years experience as a Level I Systems Technician.
