About The Position

As our IT Systems Administrator, you will provide general IT support for the Greens Creek mine site. Every day you will work at a mine site on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You’ll start everyday planning and prioritizing work activities, using time efficiently and effectively. You will be called upon to assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of desktops, laptops, printers, phones, and mobiles devices, providing general IT support. To thrive in this role, you must have the initiative to keep abreast of rapidly changing technical developments and opportunities, communicating them with the IT Director and your colleagues. We’re on a remote island, you must know how to work independently and be available to respond during non-working hours for urgent situations. About Us The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing approximately 530 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department- level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well. Apply your technical aptitude to analyze and correct problems using documented procedures, available tools, personal knowledge, and skill. You will be engaging requests, incidents, and communications that are received through Hecla’s service desk ticketing system. You’ll be responsible for keeping the server and workstation software up to date and maintain sustainable backup procedures. You may be working on a remote island and living in a mining camp environment away from home. Every department is slightly different, but our IT department works 15 days for 11 or 12.5 hours each, followed by 13 days off. Safety is important. The IT Systems Administrator partners with Corporate IT to ensure effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of IT hardware, software, and related infrastructure. Scope includes secure and reliable IT: networks, end- user computers, Fiber/Ethernet/Internet Service Provider (ISP) interfaces, along with border connectivity to OT SCADA. This individual works within the Hecla IT team to ensure Greens Creek business IT infrastructure, operating systems, and software systems are executed and documented in a consistent manner using the ticketing system and documented procedures to meet site needs within an enterprise environment. Individual must be self-driven and be able to work independently, as this position frequently works without direct supervision.

Requirements

  • 3 years business IT experience preferred.
  • Hands on support of network environment, preferably in a multi-location.
  • Experience in day-to-day helpdesk level administration of Active Directory.
  • Experience in a Windows environment.
  • The ability to weigh multiple solutions, identify applicable standards, assess which is optimal, and clearly communicate conclusions via documentation standards.
  • Ability to clearly articulate digital technology standards and apply cyber security controls to all business technology activities.
  • Courtesy, respect, recognition of IT’s responsibility to provide digital technology vision and guidance to the Greens Creek mine operation; ability to negotiate, willingness to provide timely and comprehensible guidance to users, and maintenance of good working relationships with employees and vendors across the Company.
  • Required to establish and manage time commitments. This individual must be able to coordinate availability with colleagues and vendors to assure systems administrative coverage to meet the operation’s 24/7 schedule.
  • Certifications in Microsoft, business systems, and other relevant technologies should be sought and continuously maintained through testing and continuing education.
  • Proven consistency of ticket-based documentation of work, consistency of execution, and systemization of tasks.
  • Consistent application of cyber security and data control standards to end user support activities.
  • Initiative to keep abreast of rapidly changing technical developments and opportunities.
  • Position is a 15/13 schedule: 15, 12.5 hrs days working and staying onsite in Juneau, 13 days off.
  • Must possess strong time management skills, including the ability to work effectively independently, without direct oversight.
  • Previous experience exercising high levels of initiative, confidentiality, judgment, and diplomacy is required.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Display a high level of customer service, attentiveness, and professionalism with client base.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Must complete MSHA 24-hour training or provide 5000-23 documentation of completed training.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must obtain TWIC certification within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general business system technology support for the Greens Creek site: install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, phones, peripherals, and mobiles devices in an enterprise technology environment.
  • Engage requests, incidents, and communications received through Hecla’s service desk ticketing system as the primary driver of efforts.
  • Provide help desk level support of O365.
  • Daily administration of Greens Creek’s Windows environment.
  • Keep workstation software up to date with current patches and support.
  • Support end user application of, and compliance with, Hecla cybersecurity and digital control standards.
  • Participate in execution of site IT: standards, procedures, protocols, training, performance metrics, infrastructure documentation, and change management solutions.
  • Day to day administration of the Greens Creek portion of Active Directory in a multi-tenant environment.
  • Engage end users to collect functional specifications for business system improvement requests.
  • Work with corporate infrastructure and network team to meet site functional requirements.
  • Analyze and correct problems using documented procedures, available tools, personal knowledge, and skill, while documenting solutions and effort taken in the pursuit of resolution.
  • Provide end user support of O365 applications.
  • Provide help desk level support of enterprise cloud-based file repository.
  • Assist infrastructure team to troubleshoot network Layer 2/3 connectivity issues.
  • Troubleshoot Layer 1 network issues, fix network cabling, and ensure best practice cable management is followed.
  • Perform diagnostics with stakeholders to collect and document on tickets information regarding technical problems for Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Support corporate infrastructure team efforts to secure boundaries of connectivity between IT infrastructure and dependent OT Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).
  • Plan and prioritize work activities, using time efficiently and effectively; develop realistic action plans with consistent stakeholder engagement.
  • Communicate with coworkers, management, outside contractors and vendors, and employees in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Respond during non-working hours to address urgent situations involving IT systems.
