About the position

This position is responsible to manage all aspects of servers with respect to services and performance while working closely with other IT staff to maintain uptime and service levels. This position also supports additional IT systems including Cloud services, LAN, WAN, servers, workstations, VoIP telephone, and related systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up.
  • Maintain the security of computerized information and data; perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
  • Provide support to various constituencies; investigate and troubleshoot issues as requested; provide troubleshooting and repair for network issues, collaborating with others to achieve effective and efficient solutions.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures; coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
  • Develop, document, and standardize preventative maintenance routines to ensure system availability and performance standards on production systems.
  • Add users into the network access database and provision mailboxes, and maintain mailbox databases.
  • Perform highly confidential digital audits on personnel as requested by approved administrators.
  • Administer, maintain and troubleshoot Cloud mail applications (O365 and Google Workspace) and cloud applications.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades regularly, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities; configure/add new services as necessary; Upgrade and configure system software that supports College infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational need.
  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required; configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
  • Work with vendors to establish, troubleshoot, and maintain voice/data communication as needed.
  • Provide training and guidance on computer and cloud applications and equipment.
  • Provide recommendations for hardware and needed supplies.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with College policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a related field required; bachelor's degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of related experience is required
  • Process management experience is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft server environment
  • Comprehensive understanding of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and experience with cloud infrastructure management
  • Comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices to ensure system integrity and data protection
  • Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and managing virtual environments
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols and services (e.g., DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP) and experience with network troubleshooting in a Cisco Meraki environment
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using tools such as PowerShell, Python, or similar to streamline system administration tasks
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuity planning and implementation
  • Ability to manage IT projects, including planning, implementation, and monitoring to ensure successful project delivery
  • Demonstrated expertise and working knowledge of technical principles, theories and concepts in field of specialization
  • Ability to handle sensitive and complex issues consistently, confidentially and professionally
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and manage multiple tasks in a constantly changing work environment while paying attention to detail
  • Ability to independently make decisions
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse population
  • Ability to consistently provide excellent customer service

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience working with Apple hardware and software is preferred
  • Related work experience in higher education is preferred
