About the position

The IT Sr. Project Manager at Houston Methodist is responsible for overseeing large-scale technology projects, ensuring they meet established goals and objectives within set time frames and budgets. This role involves planning, directing, and coordinating project activities while adhering to project management best practices. The position requires interaction with various stakeholders, including senior leadership, and serves as a mentor to junior project managers.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manages assigned projects to ensure outcomes match agreed upon customer expectations and outcomes.
  • Effectively communicates project information to stakeholders through agreed upon channels and timelines.
  • Guides and facilitates stakeholders throughout the organization in establishing detailed requirements for complex projects.
  • Independently plans and organizes projects.
  • Defines scope and objectives of assigned project(s).
  • Determines time frame, funding limitations, and procedures for accomplishing project.
  • Identifies and schedules project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks.
  • Serves as a mentor to more junior project managers.
  • Establishes the project quality plan, including the application of Portfolio & Process Management Office testing standards.
  • Independently establishes the project risks and mitigation plans.
  • Adheres to standards and procedures for project initiation, planning, execution, control, monitoring, and closure defined by the Portfolio & Process Management Office.
  • Prepares the Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) for the project and assists IT Financial Analyst(s) with the approval process.
  • Manages Purchase Orders (PO) and invoices throughout the project life cycle.
  • Closes all project expenditures at the end of the project.
  • Proposes opportunities to improve the Portfolio & Process Management Office and leads improvement initiatives by planning, implementing and ensuring adoption.
  • Proactively manages own professional development and completes Individual Development Plan (IDP).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline with an information technology focus.
  • Five years of successful experience in implementing large to enterprise scale and complex projects, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Project management skills with ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to deliver projects using leading-edge technology.
  • Strong knowledge of current technologies.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of business needs, with the ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively facilitate meetings.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate under a dual reporting relationship (IT, customers).
  • Solid knowledge in Microsoft Office products.
