About the position

The IT Specialist (SYSADMIN) position at the Department of the Interior involves managing and optimizing Information Technology systems across two parks, Appomattox Court House NHP and another location. This term position is expected to last at least 13 months, with the possibility of extension up to four years. The role includes ensuring compliance with IT security requirements, consulting with customers, and maintaining familiarity with IT systems configuration.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, and document the installation of new or modified IT systems.
• Optimize the functionality of IT systems.
• Ensure compliance with department and organizational IT security requirements.
• Identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities and risks.
• Consult with customers to identify priorities and integrate systems administration requirements into daily operations.
• Maintain familiarity with IT systems configuration.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
• Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
• Valid driver's license required for operating a government or private motor vehicle.
• Must complete a one-year probationary period if new to Federal government.
• Must have at least one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in customer service and problem resolution.
• Knowledge of various platforms, operating systems, applications, and desktop configurations.
• Experience managing a problem resolution database.
