About the position

The IT Specialist SYSADMIN position at China Lake, CA, is a critical role responsible for the maintenance, support, system design, automation, and disaster recovery of organizational computer systems. This position ensures compliance with applicable Joint Special Access Program Implementation Guide (JSIG) standards, which are essential for maintaining the security and integrity of information systems within the organization. The specialist will work across multiple platforms, including Windows 2016/2019 Server, Unix/Linux, and various scripting languages such as PowerShell, as well as legacy systems and applications. In this role, the IT Specialist will perform system hardening, which includes securing applications, operating systems, firmware, databases, and networks. They will manage user accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment, ensuring that only authorized personnel have access to sensitive information. Additionally, the specialist will oversee system/server resources, focusing on performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability to ensure optimal operation of all systems. The position also involves configuring and managing network switches and maintaining computer clusters that require high availability, load balancing, and high-performance computing capabilities. The IT Specialist will be responsible for maintaining technical safeguards on all information systems and resolving customer issues promptly. Troubleshooting hardware/software interface and interoperability problems will be a key part of the job, as will maintaining accurate system architecture diagrams, hardware inventories, and software inventories within a 30-day threshold. Furthermore, the specialist will provide guidance to team members, agencies, and leadership, and will be responsible for training team members or updating and maintaining training materials or deskbooks. Integrating Department of Defense (DOD) cybersecurity policies and guidelines during the development of cybersecurity frameworks supporting mission efforts is also a crucial aspect of this role. The IT Specialist will routinely ensure that comprehensive cybersecurity measures are implemented, followed, and recorded in a timely and accurate manner, while monitoring information systems and user compliance in accordance with organizational policies.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintenance, support, system design, automation and disaster recovery of organizational computer systems ensuring compliance with applicable JSIG standards.
  • Perform work related to multiple platforms, virtualization, databases, and applications, including Windows 2016/2019 Server, Unix/Linux, scripting languages, PowerShell, and legacy systems and applications.
  • Perform system hardening to include applications, operating system, firmware, databases and network.
  • Manage accounts, network rights and access to systems and equipment.

Requirements

  • Experience with Windows 2016/2019 Server and Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, particularly PowerShell.

  • Ability to manage user accounts and network rights effectively.
