About the position

AutoZone is looking for a technical IT Manager for the software portfolio supporting Store Operations. As an IT Manager specializing in software development for our store systems, you will be responsible for managing and leading a team of engineers in building new capabilities, supporting/maintaining existing systems, and collaborating with other business and IT teams to solve issues and design new store solutions. A successful candidate will need to possess a deep, low-level understanding of Linux-based systems as well as cloud-based technologies. This highly collaborative IT Manager will also need to work closely with the business leaders in our Store Operations group, understanding short and long-term business goals, and collaborating on plans and roadmaps to achieve those goals.

Responsibilities

  • Leads teams in the development, implementation, and support of store systems for a best-in-class in-store employee and customer experience
  • Understands the systems/applications that his/her team develops technologically/functionally, aligns with a technical roadmap of the department & AutoZone, works with the team to continuously inspect the current state, and brings innovative ideas to improve/modernize.
  • Ensures the architectural/design decisions taken by the team align to AutoZone standards while keeping in mind performance, scalability, resiliency, etc.
  • Develops technical talent and leadership capabilities in team members and ensures a highly motivated team through coaching and mentoring focusing on accountability & ownership.
  • Implements systems to maximize usability, accessibility, and customer experience. Leverages internal and external APIs, databases, and other data sources
  • Oversees the scheduling, control, and progress of system design, development, and installation activities
  • Develops trusted and open relationships with key business partners at Manager and Director levels and works closely with and manages vendor partner relationships
  • Coordinates between internal and external resources, ensuring effective communication between all groups and individuals involved in projects
  • Leads all projects under the rules and guidelines of the Project Management Office (PMO). Ensures all PMO documentation is produced to high standards
  • Oversees project financials and ensures adherence to AutoZone's fiscal policies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 8 - 12 years total experience in IT development with a minimum of 5 years in the retail industry with high volume customer-facing 24/7 online storefronts
  • Heavy hands-on experience implementing systems using C/C++ (Qt), Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, and React.js in a Unix / Linux environment
  • A working knowledge of how AI/ML-based systems work; Real world experience with these type systems and technologies is a plus
  • Experience modernizing legacy, CLI-based systems to cloud-based technology that's mixed/interlocked with web-based, thick client front end user interfaces
  • Experience in leading technical/engineering teams working on complex, distributed applications
  • Experience with developing and managing applications across multiple data centers is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, problem-solving and analytical skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts and designs to a broad range of people
  • Strong experience in using Agile (Scrum / Kanban / SAFe) project development methodologies
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing business and technology landscapes
  • Must have a contagious work ethic; including high sense of urgency to resolve issues quickly, creatively and efficiently
