An Investment Analyst III – Commercial Mortgage Loan responsibilities may include reporting, management and training of more junior analysts, and presentation of loans to the production team. Special projects and/or reporting functions may be assigned. This role supports the production and management of commercial mortgage loan investments. Responsibilities vary by analyst and can include independently: (a) reviewing loan submission packages, researching/ analyzing market data, and underwriting mortgage loans; (b) preparing loan applications; (c) closing loans and allocating work among analysts; (d) reviewing and valuing loans in the portfolio; (d) assisting in actively managing the mortgage loan portfolio; and (e) managing the REO and equity portfolio.

Requirements

  • BA or BS in business, finance or related field
  • 3 years minimum experience in the commercial real estate and commercial mortgage industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Unum’s investment portfolio
  • Strong computer/technology skills including Word, Excel; ability to learn new software
  • Ability to work independently within a team-oriented environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication and math skills
  • Financial management experience/ability
  • Strong independent analysis/decision making ability

Responsibilities

  • Support VP and Investment Officer(s) with market research, initial loan submission and underwriting analysis.
  • Coordinate and manage closing process for new loans including draft preparation of loan applications, collection of fees, review of non-legal documents, lease and financial analysis, timely data input and effective communication with internal and external clients.
  • Support VP and Investment Officer(s) with asset management of existing mortgage loan portfolio including analysis of loan documents, loan valuations, lease analysis and recommendations, additional collateral reserve accounts and other asset management issues.
  • Financial analysis of annual property operating statements and assistance with revaluation of individual loans.
  • Monitor loan defaults and problem loans including coordination of third-party reports, assistance in preparation/negotiation of management, leasing and listing agreements with third party firms, rent/payment collection, and internal loan reporting.
  • Assist in management of owned investment real estate properties to maximize returns in leasing, budgeting, operations and sales, working closely with local third-party property managers.
  • Back up for team members.
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc portfolio reporting for various internal and external purposes (the latter of which includes MBA, audit, CREF, FHLB, CECL, special projects).
  • Administration of loan and real estate management systems, including training, reporting, process review/improvements, testing/coordination of annual upgrades with internal resources and external vendors.
  • Assist other investment areas with related real estate issues, as needed.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
