About the position

The Internal Audit and Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing financial compliance across multiple operations, including conferences and thrift stores. This role involves implementing best practices for accounting and governance, monitoring financial controls, and optimizing efficiency by identifying non-compliance and waste. The manager will provide timely information to senior management and support the Audit Committee, Treasurer, and Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement an annual Internal Audit Plan.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal audit policies and procedures.
  • Conduct detailed audit procedures to verify financial information and assess internal controls.
  • Monitor internal controls to prevent, detect, and correct fraud and misstatements.
  • Conduct ad hoc investigations into variances to standards.
  • Prioritize solutions and propose process improvements.
  • Assist external auditors in their audit processes.
  • Ensure timely audit information is reported to the CEO and Audit Committee.
  • Act as the primary interface with the outsourced finance and accounting vendor.
  • Review monthly financial reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure compliance with contract management procedures.
  • Identify and monitor potential risks to the organization.
  • Develop programs to minimize risks and oversee corporate insurance coverage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in internal auditing, financial accounting, or financial management.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in public accounting with direct auditing experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years nonprofit experience in accounting and internal auditing.
  • Strong understanding of Accounting/GAAP principles for nonprofit organizations.
  • In-depth experience with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong IT skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with the Archdiocese of Detroit Catholic faith community.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge software and retail POS systems.
