About the position

The City of Brentwood is offering an internship program designed for high school students to gain valuable on-the-job training and experience in the public sector. This mentorship program aims to help students expand their professional networks and acquire career guidance while participating in various educational and professional experiences related to local government operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the renovation of the Economic Development website
• Assist the City Manager's office with outreach and communication through social media and marketing
• Conduct, compile, and analyze research for assigned projects
• Draft responses to citizen letters/emails
• Assist with preparation of ceremonial documents for City Council meetings
• Assist with policy research related to historical document retention
• Learn and experience behind-the-scenes actions for community events
• Inventory and research of Art Commission Projects
• Assist with Jr. Warriors youth basketball program
• Field and facility set-up/tear down
• Photography of events and programs
• Light work in the shop for the Public Works Fleet Division
• Changing tires and repairing flats in the Fleet Division
• Sample log-in and inventory control in the Water Quality Lab
• Daily calibrations and microbiology testing in the Water Quality Lab

Requirements

• Current high school student
• Interest in local government and public sector operations
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Strong communication skills
• Self-motivated and hardworking

Nice-to-haves

• Interest in biology, chemistry, or environmental sciences
• Experience with social media and marketing
