About the position

The Cytokinetics Internship Program offers a paid summer internship for undergraduate students in the Discovery Technologies Informatics group. Interns will engage in projects that support biopharmaceutical scientists, applying modern software engineering principles to tasks such as software system migration, data analysis, and development of applications. This role emphasizes collaboration with informatics personnel and scientists, providing a challenging and rewarding experience aimed at building a strong foundation for a career in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Responsibilities

• Work on projects related to systems and data to support biopharmaceutical scientists.
• Apply modern software engineering principles in various tasks.
• Engage in software system migration and system configuration.
• Conduct data analysis and develop scripts/applications.
• Explore potential machine learning solutions for drug discovery scientists.
• Collaborate with informatics personnel and scientists to achieve project goals.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled undergraduate student with a computer science major or emphasis in such.
• Strong programming fundamentals and experience with modern development tools.
• Highly focused, organized, detail-oriented, and motivated team player with good time management skills.
• Experience with software development, data management, and data analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to solve problems independently using documentation, online resources, and best practices.
• Interest in biotechnology systems and scientific software solutions.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Python, and/or JavaScript/HTML web applications.
• Experience with AWS cloud services (S3, Lambda, EC2).
• Experience with SQL and database technologies (PostgreSQL or Oracle).
• Knowledge of version control systems (Git).
• Understanding of RESTful APIs and web services.
