About the position

The Intern - Computational Lab position at United Therapeutics offers a unique opportunity for college students to engage in research and development within the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. The intern will work in the computational systems biology lab, focusing on building in silico models of lung function to support drug development and organ manufacturing. This role emphasizes professional development, collaboration, and making a meaningful impact in a patient-centric environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop computational models of lung function under healthy and disease conditions, including ODE-based, PDE-based, or agent-based models.
  • Complement mechanistic model development with machine learning approaches.
  • Identify data in literature and public repositories for training and validating mathematical models.
  • Apply models to support decision-making in drug development and tissue engineering projects.
  • Perform all other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Must actively be a college student (including rising sophomores or those pursuing a 2-year degree) for Intern Level.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in a science/engineering discipline for Advanced Intern Level.
  • Proficient in at least one of the following programming languages: Julia, Python, or R.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours per week onsite in the Silver Spring, MD office.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite.
