About the position

The Interim School Nurse at North Broward Preparatory School is responsible for providing health care services to students and staff during a 12-week temporary position. This role involves maintaining health and safety standards, ensuring compliance with state health regulations, and responding to medical issues as they arise. The nurse will work closely with students, parents, and school staff to promote a healthy school environment and manage health-related emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care for students, including first aid, medication administration, and emergency response.
  • Assess and treat student injuries or illnesses; refer students to appropriate medical professionals when necessary.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student health issues, injuries, and medical needs.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by licensed healthcare providers, ensuring compliance with Nord Anglia medication policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of student medications and health plans.
  • Maintain confidential student health records, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Update student immunization records and notify families of missing or expired immunizations.
  • Provide health education to students, staff, and families on relevant health topics (e.g., hygiene, nutrition, mental health, disease prevention).
  • Promote a healthy school environment through initiatives and awareness programs.
  • Serve as a first responder to medical emergencies, including potential allergic reactions, asthma attacks, or injuries.
  • Develop, update, and implement emergency care plans for students with chronic health issues (e.g., asthma, diabetes, severe allergies).
  • Participate in schoolwide emergency preparedness drills.
  • Ensure the health office is well-organized, stocked with supplies, and follows proper sanitation practices.
  • Keep detailed and accurate records of all health office visits and services provided.
  • Collaborate with other school staff, including teachers and counselors, to support the overall wellbeing of students.
  • Coordinate with local health departments regarding contagious disease outbreaks, health alerts, or vaccination clinics.
  • Serve as the point of contact for health-related inquiries from staff, students, and families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma acceptable with relevant experience.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida.
  • BLS and First Aid certification.
  • At least 2-3 years of clinical nursing experience; experience in a school or pediatric setting is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and respond effectively in emergencies.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems (Magnus Health) and student health databases is a plus.
