About The Position

The principal is responsible for setting the vision for achieving and sustaining high levels of student achievement and strategically implementing the school’s mission through effective leadership of stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community. The principal will oversee all aspects of the school improvement process, school environment and the operational/fiscal health of the school.

Requirements

  • MA/MS degree in School Administration preferred or MA/MS degree in leadership and/or behavioral studies; valid Oklahoma teaching and current secondary administrative certificate.
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience, with additional leadership experience in either a district or building site principal or assistant principals role.
  • Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability; strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and laws applicable to education; expertise in the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common academic journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to district leaders, public groups, and/or boards of education.
  • Ability to apply intermediate mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Develops cooperative and functional relationships with district staff and the public; maintains consistent and punctual attendance; insures job responsibilities are met competently and within established deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the instructional leader of the building staff and articulate a clear and compelling vision founded in strong and sustainable student achievement outcomes.
  • Manage personnel effectively through appropriate delegation, planning and evaluation.
  • Effectively evaluate teachers' classroom management, instructional practice, professional development pursuits, interpersonal and ledership skills, while identifying high and low effectiveness performers, and provide clear and actionalbe feedback, resources and support.
  • Assure the effective implementation of the school improvement plan that includes measurable long-term goals and short-term objectives as well as aligned strategies, activities, milestones, professional development plans, and budgets. This will be accomplished through scheduled reviews with school leadership teams.
  • Monitor implementation of the school improvement plans curriculum and instructional strategies, and maintain the focus and ongoing modification of the plan as new data become available.
  • Facilitate the data review process to identify areas that impede students’ academic growth.
  • Provide professional development to teachers and staff on using the data from benchmark/formative assessments to inform instruction.
  • Facilitate effective use of learning time by providing professional development related to maximizing increased instructional time focused on student academic growth, differentiated re-teaching and focused interventions; and strengthen key concepts across all subject areas.
  • Effectively establish annual goals to increase student achievement and focus the entire school on improvement activities using SMART goals.
  • Confer with all stakeholders in the implementation and the efforts at the school level that are being made to plan for transition activities.
  • Fosters an environment where staff and faculty work cooperatively together and hold each other accountable to reach high levels of student achievement.
  • Lead the improvement of student achievement by implementing the Tulsa Model for teacher observation and evaluation with high levels of fidelity.
  • Responsible for developing budgets and providing expenditure controls on budgets.
  • Responsible for the monitoring of instructional and support services provided within assigned facility to ensure that they are of the highest quality and provided in accordance with IEP’s.
  • Responsible for working directly with administrator(s) of facilities to increase the quality of services provided to students with disabilities when said service are not of the highest quality.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all records of attendance, grades, transcripts, reports, etc. are completed and filed in a consistent manner with District, State, and Federal policy.
  • Be highly visible within each of assigned facilities, so that you may have knowledge of the performance of the team in delivering quality services.
  • Responsible for resolving parent/guardian complaints in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Serve as a member of the District’s Administrative team and attend required meetings when called.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with community agencies.
  • Communicate frequently and directly with the District Administrative team regarding potential problems or issues which require immediate attention in a proactive manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by district administration.
  • Attend School Board meetings frequently.
  • Any other issue not mentioned above. (As in any other duties assigned bythe Superintendent of Schools or their designees(s).
  • Supervises, oversees and manages a district secondary building program and staff associated with it.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
