About the position

The position involves executing in-flight safety control of target and interceptor missiles at the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF). The role requires conducting pre-operational checks, overseeing flight simulations, and ensuring that missile command destruct systems are operational. The individual will be responsible for range safety analyses, developing safety policies, and conducting comprehensive reviews of project test plans to ensure safe operations during missile firing events.

Responsibilities

  • Execute in-flight safety control of target and interceptor missiles.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks of missile command destruct systems.
  • Oversee flight simulations and countdown procedures to ensure operational support instrumentation.
  • Assume sole control of missile flight to contain it within hazard boundaries.
  • Conduct range safety analyses and evaluations.
  • Develop safety policies and procedures for missile operations.
  • Recommend range safety approval prior to missile firing events.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of project test plans, equipment, and procedures to determine range hazards.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • For GS-13: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • For GS-12: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Specialized experience must demonstrate knowledge of aerodynamics, flight mechanics, probability, and statistics related to missile flight safety testing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with flight safety, flight termination systems, or range instrumentation that supports range safety operations.
