About The Position

The Intake Specialist is primarily responsible for conducting intake appointments for prospective and current students who need Academic Accommodations and coordinating any follow up necessary. This position assists with the planning, organizing, and interviewing of students with documented medical, physical, psychiatric, and learning Disabilities and differences for reasonable Academic Accommodations. The Intake Specialist also supports all departmental activities including events and student support groups. This is a temporary position from May 2026 to September 2026.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in social work, psychology, disability services, counseling, or a related field required
  • Minimum two (2) years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following areas: working with Counseling or guidance for students with disabilities, School Psychology, Providing Accommodations in Higher Education Setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge and expertise of disability services, Academic Accommodations in higher education, the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of The Rehabilitation Act of 1998.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with various assistive and adaptive technologies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email software, and database systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and accommodate student and college appointments at all campus locations.
  • Must be able to operate in compliance with confidentiality requirements.
  • Must be able to monitor and implement federal and state legislation, regulations, and policies pertaining to individuals with disabilities in higher education.
  • Commitment to serving students and collaborating with department staff and faculty.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a similar area preferred
  • Direct experience working with regulations pertaining the the ADA, ADAA, and Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended and other related laws.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn the Equipment Utilized: Text reading programs (Kurzweil) Screen reading programs (JAWS, Voiceover for Macs, and NVDA) Electronic note taking systems (Live Scribe pens) Assistive and adaptive listening devices (FM systems) Speech to text software and hardware programs (e.g. Dragon Naturally-Speaking).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring delivery of reasonable Academic Accommodations to all eligible students at Rowan College at Burlington County in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1998, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments of 2008.
  • Schedules intake appointments for students with Disabilities.
  • Conducts intakes and follow-up meetings with assigned students.
  • Analyzes official Disability documentation to determine student eligibility.
  • Determines appropriate Academic Accommodations in a college setting based on official documentation of Disability.
  • Assists with the planning, organizing, and provision of reasonable accommodations to students with documented medical, physical, psychiatric, and learning Disabilities and differences.
  • Assists with the implementation of approved, reasonable accommodations for students in compliance with established Office of Student Support policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate, comprehensive, confidential, and up-to-date notes/records within a database.
  • Processes documentation and student information appropriately and by departmental standards.
  • Responds in an appropriate and timely manner to all student, faculty, and staff inquiries.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate community and college services or agencies.
  • Assists the department with the promotion of awareness of Disability issues and initiatives within the college community.
  • Assists the department with coverage on appropriate committees to develop institutional policies and procedures as they relate to students with Disabilities.
  • Serves as an advocate for students with Disabilities while maintaining effective relationships with faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Maintains scheduled office hours on assigned campus as coordinated by the department based on student volume. Hours will fluctuate based on college calendar and student need.
  • Participates in department and division meetings.
  • Provides departmental reports on student interactions and outcomes.
