About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Insurance has an Insurance Analyst II position available. In this position, you would review and analyze Property and Casualty filings, including forms and rates, to determine if they are adequate, in accordance with State Statutes and Regulations, and not in conflict with the best interest of the general public. You will also research rate setting and related practices, determine appropriate action for insurance rates, communicate these determinations to insurance companies, and ensure companies are in compliance with insurance regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in insurance, business administration, finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, or related field and one year of experience in the insurance industry or related field.
  • Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • Knowledge of property & casualty insurance principles and the operations of property & casualty insurance companies and agencies; most lines of insurance and detailed knowledge of at least six lines of insurance, statistical techniques used in the justification of insurance rates; insurance industry practices in all lines of insurance assigned.
  • Ability to read and interpret insurance policy forms and state statutes.
  • Ability to analyze lines of insurance to identify factors which influence rates and policy provisions of assigned lines of insurance.
  • Ability to perceive trends and identify future problems in assigned lines of insurance.
  • Develop effective working relationships with agency personnel and insurance company officials.

Responsibilities

  • Review Property & Casualty insurance rate filings to determine if they are statistically adequate and in accordance with State statutes and regulations.
  • Review Property & Casualty insurance form filings to determine if they are adequate, in accordance with State statutes and are not in conflict with the best interests of the general public.
  • Make the decision regarding the type of final action that should be taken on a filing.
  • Corresponds with the members of the insurance industry on matters pertaining to the filings.
  • Answers questions and concerns from the insurance industry and the public on lines of insurance assigned.
  • Prepares reports for supervisors on lines of insurance assigned.
  • Updates and maintains checklists for assigned lines.
  • Assist with cross training of other analysts.
  • Do public speaking on lines of insurance assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of classification.
