About The Position

This position involves dual responsibilities as a full-time instructor of Respiratory Therapy and the Director of Clinical Education (DCE) for the program. The DCE will provide leadership in developing, conducting, and assessing the clinical education program to meet CoARC Standards. This includes curriculum development, teaching, and ensuring clinical education aligns with didactic and laboratory activities. The instructor role involves teaching 9 credit hours per semester, with 3 credits of release time for DCE duties. Responsibilities include planning and delivering theoretical and clinical instruction, finding and scheduling clinical practicum coverage, engaging in professional development, and participating in university and community service. The role also includes academic advising for students, with a focus on supporting diverse populations.

Requirements

  • Must have earned at least a baccalaureate degree.
  • Must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential.
  • Must hold a current state license.
  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Must have at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such programs.
  • Must complete the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program within 24 months of assuming the position.
  • Ability to verify U.S. employment eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership in developing, conducting, and ongoing assessment of the clinical education program.
  • Ensure the program meets the requirements of the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) Standards.
  • Contribute to continuous curriculum development and review.
  • Teach a course load of 9 credit hours per semester.
  • Plan and provide theoretical instruction and clinical or laboratory experiences.
  • Work with the Program Director to find, schedule, and provide clinical practicum coverage.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training.
  • Engage in department, university, and community service activity.
  • Participate in academic advising and guidance of students.
  • Assess the efficiency and appropriateness of teaching methods and resources.
  • Have frequent, regular and consistent contact with students, clinical faculty, and clinical affiliates.
  • Assure student records are accurate and maintained.
  • Assign students to clinical rotations.
  • Promote positive relationships with service area hospitals, clinics, and agencies.
  • Represent the Respiratory Therapy program by participating in faculty.
