About The Position

Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Chemistry and Physics invites applications for the position of Instructor of Chemistry. All Chemistry Instructors are expected to teach undergraduate-level chemistry courses and labs. You would be responsible for preparing lessons and assessments based on a list of course learning objectives and using the textbook already adopted. In this position, you would primarily teach organic chemistry courses and labs for science majors and some 1000-level chemistry courses. Additionally, you would be expected to participate in service activities for the Department, University, and Community.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited university in Chemistry or in another discipline with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Chemistry by the hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience teaching organic chemistry lecture and laboratory courses to science majors.
  • Recent organic synthesis experience and knowledge of good lab technique is highly desirable.
  • A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and service.
  • Strong content knowledge in organic chemistry and ability to create lessons, assessments and answer keys.
  • Capacity to mentor good laboratory skills using best practices with a safety mindset.
  • Willingness to serve in a community that values all students.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty of varied backgrounds.
