About the position
Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) is seeking applications for the position of Instructor in English as a Second Language for the Fall 2025 semester. This full-time probationary position is part of the Faculty staff at HVCC, located in Troy, New York. The college is dedicated to providing a culturally diverse and pluralistic faculty committed to teaching in a multicultural environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing instruction in English, Foreign Languages, and English as a Second Language, evaluating student performance, and participating in departmental and college-wide committees to foster community and professional development.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction for English, Foreign Languages, and English as a Second Language Department.
- Evaluate student performance.
- Participate on departmental, division-wide, and college-wide committees for professional development.
- Perform duties as specified in the Faculty Contract at the direction of the Department Chairperson.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in an English language teaching field such as linguistics, second language acquisition, composition theory, or adult literacy.
- Specialization in teaching multiple types and levels of English language courses, including composition, to adult English language learners.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, correctly, and effectively.
- Teaching experience with computer-enhanced instruction.
- Teaching experience with diverse and under-prepared students.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience teaching college-level English, including traditional and ESL composition and/or literature courses online using the Brightspace (D2L) course management system.
- Certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
