About the position

The Instructor for Employment & Training at the County of Cumberland is responsible for conducting formal and informal classes aimed at addressing the employment and educational needs of participants. This role involves providing vocational and educational instruction, including remedial education, GED preparation, and job search skills, while maintaining an orderly classroom environment.

Responsibilities

• Identify participants' educational and employability needs based on test results and job readiness levels.
• Provide group and individual lesson plans tailored to participants' needs.
• Prepare curriculum using relevant software, textbooks, and audio-visual materials.
• Instruct participants in developing resumes, cover letters, and completing employment applications.
• Teach participants how to use computers for job searches and online applications.
• Provide instruction in computer software and hardware development, Microsoft technologies, and programming.
• Offer individual instruction for remedial education and literacy skill upgrades.
• Maintain an orderly classroom environment.
• Confer with supervisors and co-instructors to maximize participant development.
• Administer GED pre-testing and conduct GED preparation classes, including essay writing.
• Coordinate submission of paperwork and scheduling for GED tests.
• Maintain essential student records and reports, including test results and progress reports.

Requirements

• Five years of professional experience in counseling, teaching, or guidance in an organized education program or employment agency, or a combination of experience and education.
• Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of relevant professional experience.
