About the position

The Instructor for Building Trades / Industrial Technology at UH Maui College is responsible for teaching various courses in Construction Technology and Facilities Maintenance trades. This position requires the instructor to conduct curriculum and program development, develop teaching strategies, and maintain student interaction outside of class. The instructor will also participate in faculty committees and community service, and may be assigned to teach at outreach sites. The position is full-time, tenure track, and may involve evening, weekend, or distance offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Teach day, evening, weekend, and online credit courses in multiple Construction Technology and Facilities Maintenance trades.
  • Conduct curriculum and program development for Construction Technology.
  • Develop and support course and program development and assessment.
  • Create teaching strategies and instructional materials that integrate learning resources and address community college students' needs.
  • Prepare, adapt, and revise course syllabi, schedules, and content.
  • Maintain substantive student interaction outside of class, including office hours and student advising.
  • Maintain and service program instructional equipment and facilities.
  • Participate in faculty, campus, and administrative committees.
  • Develop a program of community service and professional self-improvement.
  • Plan and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments independently.
  • Provide service in areas of expertise to the campus and community.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Building Trades or Industrial Technology and five (5) years related work experience, or fifteen (15) college credits in Building Trades or Industrial Technology and seven (7) years related work experience including training.
  • All minimum qualifications must be from an accredited institution.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional work experience in three or more trades: Carpentry, Electricity, Plumbing, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Drafting and/or Architecture, Masonry, Welding, Painting and Decorating, and Sustainable Technology.
  • Current or former Electrical, Plumbing or other trade Journey Worker license.
  • General or Renewable Energy Contractor.
  • Facility Engineer/Maintenance Technician.
  • Operations and Maintenance Director/Manager.
  • Licensed Architect/Civil or Mechanical Engineer.
  • Teaching experience at the Community College or Trade Apprenticeship level.
  • Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.
  • Experience in distance education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with students on an individual basis and with diverse cultural backgrounds.
