About the position

The Els for Autism Adult Day Training Program Instructor is responsible for developing, planning, implementing, and assessing programs for adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related developmental disabilities. The role focuses on enhancing participants' independent living, communication, and pre-vocational skills in preparation for paid employment, utilizing various instructional strategies and collaboration with the Adult Day Training Program Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Create safe spaces and procedures in the classroom and community for participants during activities.
  • Develop groupings and support systems tailored to the needs of each participant.
  • Utilize explicit and systematic instruction methods to enhance learning.
  • Apply Applied Behavior Analytic principles in instructional and behavior management.
  • Create individualized visual, behavioral, and communicative supports as needed.
  • Implement systematic prompting strategies for skill acquisition and maintenance.
  • Develop and implement group activities related to recreation and independent living.
  • Collaborate with the Adult Day Training Program Coordinator for client interviews and screenings.
  • Maintain documentation including daily progress notes and annual reports for participants.
  • Embed self-determination activities within the Day Program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Rehabilitation, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching or developing curriculum for adults with autism and related developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to obtain a Florida Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Special Education.
