About The Position

Position is responsible for IT operations within a given department, including management of computer lab, email server, web server, file servers, research instrumentation IT, computer hardware and software purchase, management and supervision of student employees. This position advises the department chair on all IT related issues, academic issues tangential to department goals involving IT and advises/assists all faculty and staff on IT needs. Learning Technology Solutions (LTS) provides coordination, management, and advanced technical support for instructional technology.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft O/S and applications, Apple O/S and applications and Linux/Unix.
  • Possess basic electronic repair skills.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational and time management skills, with ability to take ownership and complete assigned tasks.
  • Analytical and detail oriented, with excellent problem solving skills and with the ability to multitask.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Requires expertise in Microsoft and Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • Requires expertise in Microsoft server O/S, client O/S and Linux/Unix O/S.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer degree concentration in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems or Computer Science.
  • Some positions may require a bachelor's degree or equivalent in department subject matter, including equipment/instrumental/lab experience.
  • Knowledge a/ Visual Basic, MS Access, HTML, CFML or demonstrable proficiency in other languages as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain computers, printers, peripherals, department web site/server, other software and other servers. Requires expertise in Microsoft and Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • May be expected to instruct students in problem solving, as it relates to department subject matter.
  • Design and implement new hardware and software architecture. Knowledge a/ Visual Basic, MS Access, HTML, CFML or demonstrable proficiency in other languages as needed.
  • Create and maintain user groups and permissions for all departmental IT assets. Requires expertise in Microsoft server O/S, client O/S and Linux/Unix O/S.
  • Supervise student assistants working in the department.
  • Work with faculty in the use of computer supplemental instruction for all department courses.
  • Assist in installation of computer needs for lab and research equipment.
  • May be expected to develop department subject matter curriculum involving use of IT and other instructional technology.
  • Assist department subject matter researchers with related needs.
  • Interpret learning technology trends in data visualization and dashboard utilization to identify opportunities for enhanced tool functionality, improved user adoption, and alignment with institutional effectiveness goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
