About The Position

Bright Star Schools is a free, publicly funded and open enrollment non-profit organization with nine public charters in urban Los Angeles. Across all of our Bright Star sites, over 90% of our students are eligible for free and reduced lunch. We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Instructional Assistant to support our classroom teachers in delivering high-quality education to students. The ideal candidate will be responsible for working with students one-on-one, facilitating small group instruction, assisting in the development and implementation of lesson plans, and supporting student supervision. This role plays a vital part in ensuring every student receives the individualized attention they need to succeed academically, while also contributing to a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

  • At least 48 college semester units (required)

  • Speaking and hearing are essential to the communication needs of the position; constant hearing and speaking in person and on the phone, via remote video teleconferencing platforms.
  • Must be able to be physically present at the worksite and occasionally travel for meetings or conferences.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Highly preferred)
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Korean (desired)

Responsibilities

  • Provides focused lessons to individuals or small groups of students identified through the MTSS process
  • Tutors individuals and small groups of students in various subject areas.
  • Utilizes data to plan instruction and prepare for facilitating lessons with students
  • Tracks data and goals, as well as communicating to students and supervisors
  • Communicates student growth or areas of need to teacher, supervisor, and MTSS team, in writing and verbally to support further student growth
  • Assists in maintaining student records and files.
  • Supports with 1:1 or small group testing administration throughout the school year
  • Operates equipment such as copy machines, computers and audiovisual equipment.
  • Attend and participate in professional development
  • Work closely with the teacher and other instructional staff to address student needs and contribute to ongoing educational improvements.
  • Support communication with parents by providing updates on student progress or challenges, when needed.
  • Provides occasional teacher coverage
  • Supervise students in all indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Supervise students during breakfast, lunch and snack time.
  • Executes the Bright Star culture plan and training to support a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for students
  • Encourage children to interact positively with other children and people around them.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with the teacher and classroom team to ensure the individual needs of all children are met.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
