About the position

Mississippi University for Women's Fant Memorial Library invites applications for an Instruction Librarian position. As part of a collaborative library team committed to diversity, innovation, and outside-the-box thinking, this position will take the lead in developing, promoting, and implementing innovative instruction services and resources across the curriculum. They will assess needs, create new programming, develop resources, and foster an environment that promotes excellence in teaching, learning, and research. This position is responsible for in-person and online information literacy, reference services, research consultations, subject guides, outreach, and collection development as part of a team-centered approach. As a liaison to the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the library will invest intensively in professional development in this area. The successful candidate will be responsive to curriculum and program changes. This librarian serves as a 12-month member of the library faculty (tenure track or instructor-level, depending on terminal degree status). They hold faculty rank and are expected to participate in scholarship, teaching, professional development, and service activities as outlined in the University's faculty guidelines. The library is committed to providing exceptional professional development opportunities to all its faculty and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Design and teach information literacy and technology skills workshops
  • Develop instructional support materials for library services, technology, and resources
  • Provide outreach for the library
  • Support a diverse group of students and faculty through consultations, office hours, and other in-person and online assistance
  • Act as a liaison to Health Sciences
  • Participate in general library faculty responsibilities, including online and in-person reference support, occasional weeknight or weekend hours to ensure appropriate staffing at service desks, serving on library and university committees, and acting as a collaborative partner within the library
  • Build a portfolio of service, scholarly contributions, and librarianship for tenure and promotion
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Library Science or a terminal degree in related field is required for a tenure-track appointment OR a non-terminal masters degree with an MLIS (or equivalent) degree in progress for an Instructor-level appointment
  • Demonstrated commitment to the library's diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility values
  • Coursework or experience designing and teaching information literacy and/or technology literacy workshops
  • Creativity, initiative, and interest in innovative approaches to instruction and patron services
  • Hands-on experience in learning, applying, and/or teaching new library resources and technologies

Nice-to-haves

  • Instruction experience in academic libraries
  • Experience creating instructional videos and online learning modules
  • Experience with synchronous and asynchronous instruction
