About The Position

After School Matters (ASM) is seeking an Institutional Giving Manager to help grow and sustain the institutional partnerships that make our work with Chicago teens possible. The Institutional Giving Manager is a full-time position that advances ASM’s fundraising strategy; secures, stewards, and actively develops a pipeline of institutional support from corporate, foundation, and government partners. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, the role manages a portfolio of current and prospective funders and leads grant development and management—including prospecting, proposal development, budgeting in collaboration with Finance, compliance with funder requirements, deliverables tracking, and mid-term/final reporting. The position also strengthens relationships through thoughtful cultivation, acknowledgements, and site visits, and serves as an internal project manager and cross-functional liaison to ensure timely, high-quality submissions and fulfillment of programmatic and financial obligations. The Institutional Giving Manager supervises the Grant Writer and contributes to a collaborative, high-performing Development team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree required.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working with local, regional, and foundations and shepherding proposals through to completion required.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience preparing and securing government grant funding from local, state, and national sources preferred.
  • Raiser’s Edge (ASM’s CRM) experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Director of Institutional Giving and the Grant Writer, lead prospecting efforts to identify, research, and qualify new institutional funders, write, manage, and steward all grants (public and private) that align and support ASM’s operational budget and future growth strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective institutional funders, including conducting research, tracking prospects, and partnering with leadership to prioritize and advance new funding opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Finance Department to prepare/edit budgets for submissions and reports.
  • Maintain regular contact with existing and prospective donors for cultivation and stewardship purposes. Plan, organize, and steward site visits.
  • Oversee internal systems related to grants (e.g., maintain a calendar of deadlines, supervise proposal development and reporting timelines, manage funder deliverables and the expenditure tracking process). Provide guidance for colleagues to implement and maintain these systems.
  • Maintain regular contact with internal teams (Development, Programs, Finance, Research & Evaluation) to ensure high-quality project deliverables.
  • Assist with the collection, input, and maintenance of donor information into Raiser’s Edge database, including working with the database administrator to ensure records are current and accurate.
  • Advise the Director of Institutional Giving on revenue projections based on known and potential opportunities.
  • Supervise the Grant Writer, including assigning and prioritizing workload, providing clear direction and ongoing coaching, reviewing and editing grant materials for quality and alignment, and holding staff accountable for timely, high-quality completion of proposals and reports.
