About the position

Provide services as an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Coordinator in support of the overall functions of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the NHLBI animal research program.
  • Manage all administrative functions associated with the NHLBI Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
  • Provide administrative support to the committee and researchers.
  • Manage the in-house developed Animal Study Proposal software.
  • Schedule and coordinate meeting logistics, semi-annual facility and program review, timely preparation and distribution of agendas, minutes, decisions and related materials.
  • Conduct intake review of protocol submissions and follow up to ensure completeness.
  • Serve as liaison and represent the IACUC in responding to inquiries and providing information, guidance, interpretation or clarification within scope of authority.
  • Manage and maintain official and electronic records and files.
  • Coordinate workflow and process administrative paperwork.
  • Perform other administrative functions and related duties as required.
  • Coordinate and provide assistance to ensure that all animal care and use activities related to research and/or teaching conform to all applicable NIH, State, Federal and other external regulatory requirements and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years of related biomedical experience using animal models.
  • Experience in the area of animal care and use, institutional review, research administration, audit, or other area of research, compliance or oversight.
  • Ability to anticipate, troubleshoot, expedite, and resolve issues to ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Assurance approved by the National Institutes of Health, Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW).
  • Strong understanding of animal subject regulations and the ability to effectively navigate complex protocols.
  • Demonstrated proficiency taking and transcribing notes and minutes and/or formal proceedings.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining computerized databases and tracking systems.
  • Proficient to advanced computer skills are necessary.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience working in biomedical research using animal models.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and demonstrated ability to interpret policies and guidelines, and to independently resolve problems of ordinary difficulty.
