About the position

The Inspector 3 position in Idaho Falls is responsible for overseeing and coordinating inspection and sampling operations in a high-volume production environment. This role involves supervising staff, ensuring compliance with Federal and State grading standards, and providing technical assistance to produce packing and processing facilities. The position requires strong human relation skills to effectively communicate with industry members and manage inspection procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, supervises, and coordinates work activities of a contract inspection or sampling operation.
  • Oversees and controls progress of work to meet deadlines.
  • Assigns initial grade to potatoes according to Federal and State standards.
  • Provides technical assistance and oversight to fresh produce packing and processing facilities.
  • Inspects and determines grade of commodities according to standards and completes official certification forms.
  • Provides instruction and on-the-job training to staff on inspection and grading methods.
  • Monitors compliance with inspection procedures and maintains written inspection instructions.
  • Conducts audits and documents findings, including non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to work in extreme cold and heat, wet and humid environments.
  • Ability to collect, lift, and carry samples weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Must be able to read and write in English.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Obtain and retain a USDA FV-200 certification within two months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to collect, lift, carry, and push/pull heavy objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws governing inspection and grading methods.
  • Experience in applying inspection and grading standards.
