About the position

The Meter Reader I position at CenterPoint Energy involves performing Atmosphere Corrosion Inspections (ACI) and reading meters for industrial, commercial, and residential customers. The role is essential for ensuring accurate measurement of energy consumption and involves using automated reading equipment. The position requires effective communication with customers and the ability to identify and address equipment issues.

Responsibilities

• Perform Atmosphere Corrosion Inspection (ACI) and record results using electronic devices.
• Read gas meters using automated reading equipment such as Mobile Collector and Handheld units.
• Load and monitor computer discs in the Handheld unit/Mobile Collector to ensure acceptable daily response rates.
• Download and return discs for processing, verifying meter identification numbers and documenting readings for accurate billing.
• Plot daily routes using charts and maps to ensure effective operation of Mobile Collector technology.
• Participate in continuous improvement of route/cycle structure and assist other meter readers with location codes and data.
• Observe and report irregularities in routes, equipment, and ERT responses to supervision.
• Respond to customer requests and concerns, providing information and resolutions promptly.
• Document and communicate gas leaks, suspected theft, or equipment malfunctions to ensure safety and compliance.
• Participate in training and cross-training to enhance job knowledge and competency.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license and ability to maintain a safe driving record.
• Basic knowledge of English, mathematics (addition, subtraction, division, fractions, and percentages), grammar, and spelling.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with meter reading or related field.
