About the position

The Information Services Specialist I position at the Illinois School for the Deaf is designed to provide technical support and assistance to users and equipment throughout the school. This role involves performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and setup of computer hardware, as well as conducting training sessions for students on basic computer skills and software usage. The specialist will also engage in applications programming tasks and attend training seminars to enhance their technical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in technical on-site support to users and equipment throughout the school.
  • Perform limited on-site maintenance, troubleshooting, and setup of computer hardware and associated equipment.
  • Complete supervised assignments in applications programming, including maintenance and modification of existing projects.
  • Conduct small on-site groups and one-on-one beginner level training to students on basic Windows and PC skills.
  • Attend training seminars and conferences to develop professional knowledge and technical computer skills.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge equivalent to completion of two years of college with coursework in computer science or related fields, or completion of an agency-sponsored training program.
  • Ability to effectively participate in and profit from formal and in-service training programs.
  • Ability to analyze data logically and maintain satisfactory working relationships with others.
  • Ability to pass the IDHS background check and a drug screen.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of professional experience working with assistive technology for persons who are hearing impaired.
  • One year of professional experience training individuals in beginning level computer use.
  • One year of professional experience in application programming, including relational databases.
  • One year of professional experience with Information Technology concepts and principles.
  • One year of professional experience in customer service driven technology.
