About the position

The Infection Control Coordinator is responsible for managing and supporting comprehensive infection surveillance, prevention, and control programs across the organization. This role involves collaboration with various departments to develop and implement infection control policies, conduct surveillance of infectious diseases, and provide education and resources related to infection control. The coordinator will also monitor and evaluate nosocomial infections and outbreaks, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support and manage organization-wide infection surveillance, prevention, and control programs.
  • Perform surveillance of patients with or at risk for infectious diseases.
  • Collaborate with various departments to develop and evaluate infection control policies and techniques.
  • Conduct monitoring and evaluation of nosocomial infections and outbreaks.
  • Provide education and orientation on infection control practices.
  • Serve as a resource for infection control information and practices.
  • Stay updated on new developments in infection control and related regulations.
  • Collaborate with hospital departments and local public health agencies.

Requirements

  • Preferred BSN registered nurse with at least 4 years' experience in acute care clinical/patient care nursing or 2 years of experience in Infection Prevention.
  • Current VA License or ability to obtain is required.
  • Preferred training in Infection Control surveillance, prevention, and control functions.
  • Experience in Epidemiology, sterilization, sanitation, and disinfections is preferred.
  • Knowledge of hospital accreditation and OSHA standards is preferred.
  • Statistical and computer skills are strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of or experience in bacteriology/microbiology is preferred.
  • Good organization and communication skills are required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 30 months of employment is preferred.
  • CPHQ certification is highly preferred.
