About the position

The EMT position involves providing Basic Life Support in an industrial steel mill environment, responding to emergency situations, and managing patient care at the scene of pre-hospital emergencies. The role requires working in shifts of 24/48 hours and includes responsibilities such as medical evaluation, treatment, stabilization of critically ill and injured patients, and training of less experienced personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Basic Life Support including medical evaluation, treatment, and stabilization of critically ill and injured individuals.
  • Respond to emergency rescue situations involving potential loss of life or bodily injury.
  • Manage and direct patient care at the scene of a pre-hospital emergency.
  • Provide training and instruction to lesser trained personnel.
  • Recognize and understand medical emergencies and make reasonable differential diagnoses.
  • Perform physical examinations and anticipate life-threatening presentations of non-cardiac emergencies.
  • Address the medical and emotional needs of victims of acute illness or injury.
  • Ensure quality patient care as established by the company.
  • File standardized reports of patient information and care for administrative use.
  • Maintain effective communication with the physician on duty at the hospital regarding patient conditions.
  • Transport the ill and injured to medical care institutions.
  • Operate emergency vehicles safely under all conditions.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and vehicles.
  • Complete patient statistics and medical information forms for administrative use.
  • Assist in technical rescues to remove victims from varied terrains and circumstances.

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain EMT/EMT-B certification.
  • Must have CPR for the Health Care Provider certification.
  • Good knowledge of street systems, addresses, and physical layout of the area.
  • Ability to perform technical medical skills with high accuracy.
  • Ability to understand and effectively deal with emotional and medical needs of victims.
  • Maintain a professional and objective approach to patient care.
  • Learn new concepts in rescue and medical skills and techniques.
  • Perform limited mechanical work involved in the use, testing, and maintenance of rescue and medical equipment.
  • Direct the work of and teach other personnel.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions and orders.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and agencies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in emergency medical services in industrial settings.
  • Advanced Life Support training or certification.
