About The Position

This role involves managing projects related to industrial automation and control systems. The engineer will determine project scope, develop investigation plans, and define project specifications including cost, time, and sample requirements based on client input and available data. Travel to client sites for testing may be required. The position also includes client communication to explain services, discuss technical issues, negotiate project details, and resolve concerns. Technical assistance, establishing test programs, and ensuring product compliance with UL requirements are key responsibilities. The engineer will coordinate laboratory activities, manage administrative aspects of projects, and communicate project status and results to clients through reports and frequent contact. Continuous improvement, resolving engineering issues related to variation notices, and assisting in the development of UL requirements and test methods are also part of the role. File reviews may be coordinated or performed as directed.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with applicable standards, company manuals and appropriate technical literature.
  • Ability to coordinate laboratory activities, including preparing data sheets, instructions, and scheduling/reviewing work of technicians and engineering assistants.
  • Ability to coordinate administrative aspects of project management.
  • Ability to communicate project status and results to clients through frequent contact and reports.
  • Ability to prepare Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages.
  • Ability to integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques.
  • Ability to resolve engineering issues associated with Variation Notices.
  • Ability to assist in the development of UL requirements.
  • Ability to assist in developing special test methods and test equipment.
  • Ability to analyze test program for adequacy and sequence.
  • May require coordination and/or performance of File Reviews.
  • Ability to perform other duties as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction.
  • Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services.
  • Follows up on contacts from clients.
  • Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost, and negotiate completion date and sample requirements.
  • Acts to address client concerns and to resolve client issues.
  • Provides technical assistance to clients in reference to product inspection and follow-up services.
  • Establishes appropriate test programs by reviewing files and manufacturer's information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements.
  • Examines samples for compliance with UL requirements and notifies client of any areas in which the product is not in compliance or of any changes in project scope or specifications.
  • Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians, scheduling and reviewing work of laboratory technicians and engineering assistants and establishing completion dates.
  • Coordinates administrative aspects of project management.
  • Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.
  • Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages.
  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Resolves engineering issues associated with Variation Notices by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations.
  • Assists in the development of UL requirements.
  • Assists in developing special test methods and test equipment.
  • Analyzes test program for adequacy and sequence.
  • May coordinate and/or perform File Reviews, as directed.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
