About the position

The Special Education Teacher for Middle School Inclusion at Amergis is responsible for providing quality educational services to special education students from kindergarten through grade 12. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and support students with diverse learning needs. The teacher will design instructional strategies that align with the general education curriculum and assist in the overall development of students' educational, physical, and social skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares student education plans in consultation with parents and department team members
  • Supports learning for students with a wide range of disabilities
  • Designs individual and small group instruction that parallels the general education curriculum
  • Assists in developing educational plans with parents, administrators, and specialists
  • Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities
  • Coordinates IEP implementation with general education staff
  • Monitors student progress and participates in IEP reviews
  • Maintains accurate student records
  • Mentors and supports teaching assistants
  • Supports students in grade transitions and life skills preparation
  • Assesses students' skills and educational needs
  • Discusses students' progress with other teachers
  • Communicates with students and parents to maintain positive relationships
  • Follows School District policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field
  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education
  • Experience working with students with disabilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to design and implement individualized education plans

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Special Education
  • Experience in a middle school setting
  • Knowledge of current special education laws and regulations
