About the position

The Incinerator Operator is responsible for the efficient and compliant operation of incinerators, ensuring that waste containers are unloaded, vehicles are decontaminated, and supplies are properly staged for processing. This role involves monitoring incinerator systems, maintaining safety and environmental compliance, and performing various plant tasks related to waste management.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the incinerator waste feed rate and blending is performed properly to maintain correct incinerator temperatures and maximize throughput.
  • Monitor incinerator and steam systems, ash removal system, ash quality, and Air Pollution Control system parameters to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Report any issues identified to the shift Lead.
  • Complete all necessary logging and reporting documents accurately and file according to procedure.
  • Operate vehicles for yard movement of trucks, tractors, trailers, and roll-offs.
  • Operate hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, or similar equipment for unloading and loading vehicles.
  • Stage waste containers for weighing and scanning in the SteriWorks system.
  • Weigh and scan waste containers into the SteriWorks system for recordkeeping purposes.
  • Empty waste containers into process bins, decant containers for transfer, and load waste containers onto the conveyor system for incineration.
  • Place reusable containers on the wash line for decontamination and operate the reusable container wash unit.
  • Inspect clean containers for serviceability and compliance, and stage for loading onto assigned vehicles.
  • Decontaminate cargo areas of vehicles and ensure no free liquid is present.
  • Ensure work area is clean and free of debris, and clean up spills immediately.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year of experience, preferably in plant or incinerator environments.
  • Knowledge of barcode scanning and basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials and OSHA Regulations.
  • Ability to operate a powered industrial truck, e.g., forklift.
