About The Position

The San Diego Unified School District is seeking professionals who care deeply for students and are committed to the communities they serve. This role is for an In-School Resource Teacher assigned to Cherokee Point Elementary School, supporting students, staff, and families through a collaborative, community-centered approach. The position requires a thorough understanding of the community, extensive experience with Restorative Justice Practices, Trauma Informed practices, and Community Schools principles. The teacher will promote academic success, social-emotional well-being, and positive school culture. This role requires highly developed interpersonal, communication, and technical skills to provide a broad perspective on operations, academic needs, and professional development.

Requirements

  • Strong classroom management skills, especially for primary grades K-2 age group.
  • Experience with phonics and SEL curriculum (i.e. Secret Stories and Everyday Speech).
  • Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential by the closing date of the application deadline.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in professional learning and literacy initiatives.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data to inform instruction at the individual, classroom, and school level.
  • Use data-driven approaches to identify and support students in need.
  • Offer direct, push-in supplemental small group reading support and tier 2 intervention using science of reading based instruction.
  • Collaborate closely with the Cherokee Point team to ensure the highest quality standards-based instructional program.
  • Engage in lesson modeling, co-planning, and co-teaching with teachers.
  • Implement differentiated reading strategies and culturally responsive teaching practices to support all students, including Multilingual English Learners, students with disabilities, socioeconomically disadvantaged students, and gifted students.
  • Identify particular areas of difficulty for struggling readers and creating a personalized plan to address student needs.
  • Provide designated English language development for impacted grade levels.
  • Provide math instruction for impacted combo classes in grades 3-5.
