About the position

The Import Specialist at JAS Forwarding is responsible for processing and handling air and ocean import shipments, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and providing high-quality service solutions to meet customer requirements. This role involves preparing and reviewing documentation, tracking shipments, billing customers, and providing responsive customer service while adhering to company guidelines and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review and process appropriate documents for import shipments.
• Receive and track customer bookings/shipments and update clients on shipment status.
• Bill/Invoice each file to the respective customers, ensuring attention to payment terms.
• Resolve and reconcile incorrect payables by collaborating with vendors and overseas offices.
• Assist sales and department managers in compiling quotes.
• Provide accurate job costing forecasts and manage payables, receivables, and accruals.
• Dispatch freight for delivery and maintain communication with truckers throughout the delivery process.
• Report on customer performance and identify changes in support needs.
• Promote compliance across the department and escalate issues to management as necessary.
• Ensure timely correspondence with customers.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in imports or a combination of education and expertise preferred.
• Knowledge of US customs laws, practices, and procedures.
• Experience with Importer Security Filing (ISF) preferred.
• Good working knowledge of Incoterms required.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
