About The Position

This position provides clerical support to the Imaging Department and safely transports patients throughout the hospital. The role involves acting as a receptionist, handling patient information, maintaining departmental orderliness, and assisting with patient care needs. It requires strong communication and customer service skills, the ability to operate office equipment, and the capacity to safely transport patients. The position is full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, General Educational Development (GED), or equivalent required.
  • 6-12 months previous customer services experience preferred.
  • Previous patient care contact preferred.
  • Skilled in critical thinking, problem solving, and sound judgment.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with staff and customers required.
  • Customer service skills necessary to provide service excellence through verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and navigate standard office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment including multi-line phone system and proper phone etiquette.
  • Ability to transport/escort patients and guests/family members safely to appropriate locations.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently with interruptions.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force (Medium Work).

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Medical Terminology preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes positive relations with patients, visitors, families, physicians, customers, and co-workers.
  • Acts as receptionist for the department, handling incoming and outgoing information in person and by telephone.
  • Takes reports from other departments without error and reports vital information to appropriate staff immediately.
  • Obtains information for physicians and provides prompt response and follow-up.
  • Notifies the technologist in the performing area that their outpatient has arrived and checks in scheduled appointments.
  • Assists with maintenance and orderliness in patient care areas, including keeping transport equipment clean and orderly, stocking file drawers, emptying trash, cleaning computers and countertops, and filling printers with paper.
  • Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary, and support areas.
  • Transfers patients to and from beds, wheelchairs, or stretchers.
  • Follows established departmental policies and procedures, Standard Safety Precautions, and uses exceptional customer service.
  • Verifies patient identification bracelets and communicates with appropriate personnel regarding patient transportation.
  • Assists with meeting patient care needs.
  • Completes inventory of supplies and materials, checks supply inventory, orders supplies, and monitors for outdates.
  • Downloads CDs into the electronic health record.
  • Prepares imaging studies for continuation of care by creating a CD or electronic transmission through PACs.
  • Refers requests for facsimile copies to HIM.
  • Provides phone communication with selected departments or agencies.
  • Demonstrates use of computer for performing tasks and confidentially managing electronic patient information.
