About the position

The HVAC Technician 3 position at UNC Charlotte is responsible for providing general repair and maintenance for residential and commercial HVAC systems, including heat pumps, mini-split units, and large chillers. The role involves responding to service calls, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The technician will also take on a leadership role within the HVAC team, mentoring other technicians and managing a high volume of work orders.

Responsibilities

• Provide general repair to residential and commercial HVAC systems.
• Respond to repairs from the general work order system for a dispersed work site.
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections and procedures for commercial and residential systems.
• Assess any charges for damages found during inspections.
• Function as a lead worker and provide technical assistance to other facility maintenance technicians.
• Record daily activities into an order tracking system using a tablet.
• Ensure compliance with University Safety, State, EPA, and OSHA requirements.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Experience in HVAC trade areas related to the position's role, with substitutions allowed on a year-for-year basis.
• Valid Driver's License.
• EPA 608 Universal Certification.

Nice-to-haves

• Graduation from a 2-year technical college or equivalent and four years of experience in HVAC.
• Previous experience on a University Campus.
• Experience handling a high volume of work orders using order tracking software.
• Ability to effectively communicate in English (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension).
• Proven experience as a lead worker with the ability to provide technical guidance.
