About the position

The Controls Service Technician is responsible for performing technical service tasks and scheduled assignments to ensure the proper maintenance and operation of automation systems. This role involves handling emergency service calls, diagnosing system issues, performing preventative maintenance, and providing technical support to customers and field labor.

Responsibilities

  • Handles emergency service calls as directed during the workday and after hours.
  • Responds to customer service calls (emergency, on-site, or on-line); checks indicated points of trouble; analyzes full requirements of system; checks and tests system components.
  • Diagnoses trouble or defect; determines corrective action and repairs system.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and diagnostics on automation system and components according to service agreement contracts.
  • Tests and verifies system readings ensuring an optimal system operation.
  • Identifies additional chargeable opportunities including time and material work, system upgrades, and service contract expansion.
  • Prices, proposes, and proceeds with new work as per issued guidelines.
  • Performs system checkout and assists in DDC systems start-ups for service installed jobs.
  • Completes and submits service orders and reports covering all aspects of each assignment and activity.
  • Participates in job site final walk and/or final completion for systems to service turnover on assigned jobs.
  • Delivers technical support, coaching, and direction to end users and field labor when applicable.
  • Other duties as requested by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in building controls and automation, including troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair DDC systems.
  • High school diploma, associate's degree preferred.
  • Niagara AX and/or Niagara 4 experience required.
  • BACnet IP, TCP/IP, LonTalk, SQL and Modbus protocols experience required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer relation skills; team player.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
  • Time management; organizational skills.
  • Adaptability; dependability; flexibility; integrity.

Nice-to-haves

  • OSHA 10 certification (Preferred)
  • EPA Type II certification (Preferred)
