About the position

The Humanities Instructor position at Southwestern Community College involves teaching daytime Humanities classes at the Jackson Campus. The role focuses on delivering quality instruction, collaborating with colleagues, and contributing to the continuous improvement of the program.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course outlines and published course schedule.
  • Teach face-to-face Humanities classes on the Jackson Campus.
  • Collaborate with Arts and Sciences colleagues and administrators in program planning, assessment, and continuous improvement process.
  • Maintain accurate records for each course taught.
  • Prepare, review, and update course outlines on a regular basis.
  • Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.
  • Assist in selection and ordering of equipment, supplies, and textbooks.
  • Participate in college events and activities.
  • Cooperate in scheduled student evaluations of instructor and college.
  • Submit all college reports in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Attend instructor and departmental meetings as scheduled.
  • Be responsible for professional development and maintaining professional competence.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a Humanities field, or Master's Degree in a related discipline, with a minimum of 18 graduate-level hours in English.
  • Ability to use computers and software to support instruction, including course management software, word processing, email, Internet, and student information database.

Nice-to-haves

  • Community college or high school teaching experience in this field of expertise.
