About the position

As a Human Resources Management Trainee at BNSF Railway, you will embark on a comprehensive training program designed to equip you with the skills necessary to excel in the dynamic and fast-paced world of railway operations. Working alongside experienced HR professionals, you will gain hands-on experience in human resources, including recruitment, employee relations, training and development, and compliance with labor laws and regulations. Throughout the program, you will be encouraged to develop innovative solutions to enhance employee engagement and contribute to the company's overall strategic goals, setting a solid foundation for a successful career in Human Resources at BNSF Railway. This is a full-time, hybrid position requiring a minimum of 40 hours/week, split between office and remote work, with weekend or evening work as needed, and some field activities. Travel is minimal, with up to 25% travel required for the role, and you must have reliable transportation to and from work. Relocation is required if located more than 50 miles from the location. Training will start with a week orientation in Fort Worth, Texas, offering a company overview and networking with leaders. This will be followed by support on ongoing projects and practical training with the department. Key responsibilities may include: Upon completion of orientation, Management Trainees may be placed in one of the following teams: Talent Acquisition, Human Resources Matrix, or Training and Development. In these roles, you will partner with various departments, manage hiring needs, coordinate training programs, and contribute to performance management and employee relations issues. You will also be responsible for preparing materials and presenting HR-related items to various employee groups, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the HR function within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with HR Matrix, Medical Department, and vendors to process candidates through the pre-employment process.
  • Spearhead projects focused on project management or process improvement.
  • Leverage current recruiting strategies to build a strong pipeline of candidates to support the organization's hiring needs, including implementing plans for hard-to-fill positions.
  • Administer talent acquisition programs such as Employee Referrals and Sign-on Bonuses.
  • Serve as HR Business Partner to our operations team or corporate departments.
  • Manage customers' hiring needs including sourcing candidates, posting, and screening requisitions, recruiting, interviewing, and selection of candidates for hire.
  • Partner with leaders on performance management and employee relations issues.
  • Prepare materials and present HR-related items to various employee groups.
  • Coordinate administrative and logistic actions for BNSF training programs to include scheduling, reporting, enrollment management, materials management, including editing training materials, and event point of contact for facilitator, coaches, and attendees.
  • Create/update training calendar and maintain training records.
  • Review, summarize and communicate evaluation data and provide recommendations for delivery, facilitation, and training content improvements.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and will be at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Business, or a similar degree program from an accredited university to be completed prior to hire OR have obtained a degree in a program described above.
  • Have and/or will graduate with at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  • Have LESS THAN three (3) years of professional work experience, EXCLUDING internships, part-time jobs, or positions held while pursuing my undergraduate and/or graduate degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior intern experience or less than 3 years of work experience in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Have or have held a leadership position in a campus, community, or extracurricular organization.
  • Completed a degree (or anticipated degree) in Human Resources or Industrial Psychology.
