About the position
The Housing Inspector position at the Municipality of Princeton involves conducting rental housing inspections and enforcing related regulations in accordance with local and state housing codes. The role is essential for ensuring public health standards are met in rental properties, and it includes both routine and complaint-driven inspections. The inspector will also assist with various public health investigations and contribute to National Public Health Accreditation efforts.
Responsibilities
- Conduct rental housing inspections in accordance with Princeton's code and State Housing Code.
- Enforce regulations related to rental housing and public health services.
- Perform lead inspections and assist with complaints assigned to the rental housing and health department.
- Conduct investigations in areas such as retail food establishments, public recreational bathing, and communicable disease control.
- Utilize electronic and manual recording systems for report writing and documentation.
Requirements
- Less than high school education required.
- No prior experience necessary.
- Possession of a valid NJ Driver's License in good standing is required.
- Ability to satisfy employer-paid physical, drug screen, and criminal background check.
Nice-to-haves
- NJ Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) license is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of lead inspection and abatement is preferred.
- Bilingual capabilities are preferred for translation services.
Benefits
- Full-time regular employment with a salary range of $45,000 - $70,000.
