About the position

The City of Las Vegas Youth Development and Social Initiatives department is seeking qualified teachers/instructors for our ReInvent After-school Program (RAP). This program is comprised of students in grades K-5. The no-cost RAP, funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, offers students a broad array of support services and activities before and after school. RAP is designed to reinforce and complement in-school curriculum through providing activities that promote student success. The RAP sites will provide academic growth opportunities and enrichment activities, along with family engagement programming. Enrollment is limited. Attendance requirements will apply for participating students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized and group instruction to selected student participants in the grant funded 21st Century Community Learning Centers program.
  • Work with the site coordinator and program staff to plan and implement each component of the extended learning program.
  • Monitor student progress and implement curriculum based on student needs.
  • Be responsible for benchmark and progress monitoring data and reporting those results to parents and the site coordinator.
  • Create weekly lesson plans incorporating project-based learning, literature, math, and S.T.E.A.M. curriculum.
  • Participate in enrichment/recreational activities with the RAP staff.
  • Tutor students and help with homework.
  • Develop individual, small group, and large group academic lesson plans appropriate for students in the RAP program.
  • Maintain contact with each child's classroom school teacher on a monthly basis.
  • Help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
  • Assist in designing and implementing cooperative projects.
  • Maintain records on each student being tutored, including follow-up and periodic assessment.
  • Participate in training as assigned and enhance professional skills through internal training programs.

Requirements

  • Experience working with students in a classroom setting.
  • Experience writing and completing lesson plans.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current educational research.
  • Strong classroom management and organization.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (preferred) or Substitute License.
