About the position

The Hospice Aide at Angels Care Hospice plays a vital role in providing compassionate care to terminally ill patients. This position involves working under the supervision of a registered nurse to meet the personal needs of patients, promote comfort, and ensure quality care. The aide is responsible for observing and documenting patient conditions and providing essential personal care services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform personal care needs after given a patient's assignment and attend to requests promptly.
  • Provide positive communication techniques to patients and families, ensuring confidentiality and respect.
  • Administer personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, and changing bed linens as assigned.
  • Assist in dressing and undressing patients as assigned.
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals, including shopping, as assigned.
  • Assist in feeding the patient as assigned.
  • Monitor and care for the patient's skin to prevent breakdown of tissue over bony prominences.
  • Assess and report on the patient's condition and significant changes to the Case Manager.
  • Assist in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist.
  • Provide normal range of motion and transfers/positioning as directed.
  • Offer and assist with bedpans and urinals.
  • Assist with light laundry needs as assigned.
  • Perform range of motion and other simple procedures as ordered.

Requirements

  • Meets the training requirements of the State.
  • Completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
  • Understanding of hospice philosophy and comfort in providing specialized care to the terminally ill.
  • Satisfactory references from previous employers.
  • Self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision.
  • Comfortable with issues of death/dying and provides a calm manner in a patient's home.
  • Empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail, and impaired.
