About The Position

PAML a Labcorp company is seeking a Histology Team Lead to join our team in Tukwila, WA. This role involves performing IHC and special stains, processing human tissue and body fluid specimens, and preparing histopathological slides for microscopic examination. The Histology Team Lead will also be responsible for sectioning embedded tissue, performing various immunohistochemical tests, and processing sections through routine and special staining procedures. Additionally, the role includes embedding surgical tissue specimens, preparing stains and reagents, reporting test results, operating and maintaining instruments, and documenting maintenance and quality control procedures. Adherence to laboratory quality control policies, specimen handling procedures, and safety protocols is essential. The position requires reporting and correcting any issues that may affect test performance.

Requirements

  • Associate’s of Science degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
  • 2 or more years Histology Experience
  • Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols
  • High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed
  • Exceptional customer service
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Comfortable working under minimal supervision
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • Histology and ASCP certifications
  • 6 months or more Immunohistochemistry experience
  • In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
  • Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
  • Comfortable embedding both large and small specimens

Responsibilities

  • Perform IHC and special stains within Histology department
  • Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
  • Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
  • Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
  • Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
  • Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
  • Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
  • Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
  • Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
  • Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
  • Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed
