About The Position

As a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Engineer within General Motors’ AV Core Infrastructure team, you will design, build, and maintain advanced HIL systems that accelerate validation of embedded controllers and perception systems across next-generation vehicles. You’ll bridge mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines to deliver scalable, reliable, and maintainable test infrastructure enabling data-driven development of automated driving features. You will collaborate with systems engineers, embedded software developers, integration labs, and operations teams to ensure our HIL platforms remain at the forefront of validation capability—powering the test flywheel that drives GM’s future of safe, autonomous mobility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering—or equivalent hands-on experience in HIL, lab automation, or robotics integration.
  • 2+ years technical experience in electro-mechanical, computer, automotive, marine electronics, robotics, aerospace, or similar industry/industries.
  • Ability to proficiently read and interpret system architecture diagrams, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and network diagrams.
  • Knowledge in use of standard electronics lab tools including multimeters, oscilloscopes, AC/DC power supplies and electronic loads, etc.
  • Knowledge of different types of electrical outlets and different plug configurations.
  • Electrical troubleshooting and board debug experience.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative, rapidly changing team setting with aggressive goals and challenging timelines.
  • Strong work ethic, quality workmanship, and team oriented.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and/or knowledge with any of the following: Labview, GitHub, MATLAB, Python, JIRA, and/or Confluence experience.
  • Skilled in CAD and prototype part design (NX best SolidWorks or similar okay).
  • Familiarity with Python, CAN/LIN tools (Vector, Kvaser, etc.), and test automation frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Build HIL benches with an emphasis on standardization (wire colors, connectors) and safety (like E-stop, correct wire gauge, circuit protection fuse).
  • Maintain tools and equipment for the lab and team.
  • Produce and develop detailed documentation for all build and maintenance. procedures and team processes.
  • Design, build, and set up equipment and test fixtures; operate and maintain equipment used for testing.
  • Electrical support - harness and cable builds, debugging, and PCB board rework
  • Ability to run version controlled test scripts or software.
  • Observe all safety standards and maintain a secure, safe, clean and healthy work environment.
  • Follow operating instructions, use protective equipment when required, and use equipment and materials properly.
