About the position

The Highway Engineer Supervisor at the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is responsible for directing and supervising Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Project Supervisors. This role involves overseeing engineering projects, processing change orders, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with plans and specifications. The supervisor will also train and evaluate personnel, manage contract timelines, and serve as a technical expert for construction programs valued between $25 million and $150 million annually. This position plays a crucial role in enhancing Indiana's infrastructure and quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Project Supervisors.
  • Process all change orders and make recommendations.
  • Provide engineering direction on assigned projects, including decisions on non-routine matters.
  • Conduct inspections of projects to ensure compliance with plans, policies, and specifications.
  • Train and evaluate assigned personnel.
  • Set contract timelines for all projects.
  • Develop engineering policies and plans for unique or controversial problems.
  • Provide budgetary information and assist with long-range planning.
  • Evaluate engineering policies and recommend revisions.

Requirements

  • Civil Engineer with a B.S. Degree.
  • Licensed as a registered professional engineer in Indiana.
  • Two years' experience as a group or project leader providing work direction and training to engineering technicians or lower-level engineers.
  • Valid Indiana driver's license.
  • Broad knowledge of civil/transportation disciplines and understanding of department design standards, policies, and practices.
  • Knowledge of NEPA and NHPA processes.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as CAD, spreadsheets, databases, and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of traffic operations analysis, including capacity and crash analysis.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
